I am switching from Opera 25.0 to firefox, but cant seem to move my bookmarks.

- There is no option in Opera to export bookmarks as html.

- In my Appdata folder the bokmarks are stored as Bookmarks.bak, and i dont know how to convert this file into html, so i can import it in firefox.

- If i choose "import bookmarks from other browsers" in firefoxes bookmark manager, i can choose between chrome and IE, but no opera.

That's a backup copy of your bookmarks toolbar. The original should be named simply Bookmarks with no file extension.

Apparently you can place those files into your Chrome profile folder, and export the bookmarks from Chrome.

That's because Opera hasn't had support for bookmarks since version 15. If you want to import your stash, see

If you're using the Bookmarks Manager extension from Opera Software,

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon on the toolbar and choose "Manage and import".
  2. Click "Advanced settings".
  3. Click the Export Bookmarks button. This saves the bookmarks as Opera bookmarks.html in your Downloads folder.

1. Bookmarks Manager extension: this extension does not work with opera 25 anymore. It cant initially import bookmarks, hence export as html not possible

2. SQLite Browser: does not seem to work with opera25 db, SQL query only returned 1 bookmark. the db is 700kb large, but there is only one entry in stash_fts_content

If you didn't already have a collection of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager extension, then it's pointless to install it now. It has nothing to do with your stash. It can only import bookmarks in Netscape format, which Firefox can do as well. So it makes no sense to try to import bookmarks in that extension if you just want to import them in Firefox.

I had no problems following the afrorementioned directions just now.

  1. Did you open stash.db while Opera was closed? You can't work with that file while Opera is still using it.
  2. Did you properly enter the command in the last post in that thread? The whole thing has to be in a single line.

thx for your continued support. 1. i did it again with opera closed 2. i used the proper command no dice

when i open C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\stash.db (700kb) in SQlite and browse the data in tabel stash_fts_content, it only shows one bookmark (this one i can export with the sql command). I assume my opera version stores the bookmarks somewhere else, but i cant figure out where. I can open the speeddial bookmarks in favorites.db, so i know i am in the right directory.

Do you actually have sites stored in your stash? In Opera, open a new tab. Click Stash above the Google search box. Are any sites listed there? If yes, then I don't see where else they would be stored other than stash.db in your Opera profile folder. To find it, click the Opera menu button and choose About Opera. Note the location of the profile folder under Paths.

As for Speed Dial, I don't know the SQL command to export those entries. If you don't have too many, you can simply drag and drop each one on top of a tile in Firefox's New Tab Page. When you see the existing tiles move, let go of the mouse button, and the new site will be pinned to the New Tab Page.

Do you actually have sites stored in your stash? There is the problem :-(. The bookmarks are stored in Bookmarks.bak

in this format: {

                 "date_added": "12946203831000000",
                 "id": "357",
                 "meta_info": {
                    "opera_bookmark_date_visited": "0",
                    "opera_bookmark_description": "",
                    "opera_bookmark_guid": "549CC706-A5A8-4DDD-B8AF-E704B243D3FE",
                    "opera_bookmark_nickname": ""
                 },
                 "name": "parser function help",
                 "type": "url",
                 "url": "http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:ParserFunctions"
              },

Is there any way to import them into firefox?

This worked, Thanks Ginger!

What i did to export Opera 25 bookmarks and import them into firefox was:

1. Go to C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default 2. backup existing Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak 3. Go to C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable 4. Replace Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak in Chromes folder with the Operas Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak 5. Restart Chrome and export bookmarks in html 6. Import html in Firefox 7. (Restore original Chrome Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak)

more options

you can go to the an opera extensions "Bookmarks Import & Export" and export the opera bookmarks to an html file.
