email account to Apple iCloud fails with correct correct user name and password
A new email account was created in Thunderbird to connect to a email account on Apple's iCloud The incoming and outgoing server names were obtained from Apple and Thunderbird could verify the servers but returns with the error incorrect user name or password when completing the email account. . Apple says this is a Thunderbird problem. Any suggestions on changing the setup to get it to work with the iCloud email account. This email account is functional with a iphone 5

I wonder if part of the problem is that two-step verification, if you use it, requires the use of an app-specific password for programs like TB.

I had the same problem.
when i entered my full icloud account name, i.e. [email protected], Thunderbird made the loginname to the imap server look like this:
[email protected]@imap.mail.me.com
,... which did not look right to me.
So I deleted the "@me.com" from my username in the server settings panel, so that thunderbird logged in to the imapserver with [email protected]
now its working !

The suggested "[email protected]" is what Apple indicates on its website but thunderbird fails to connect to this server. My Thunderbird is running on a Windows 7 64bit computer There may be some background program required for thunderbird to connect to the Apple icloud email account
