Norton Toolbar doesn't work in Firefox version 21.0 -- can this be fixed?
I just had to have my laptop fixed, and the shop had to format it. So, I had to download all the programs I had, which included Firefox and Norton Internet Security. Once I updated Firefox to version 21.0, the Norton Toolbar no longer appeared in the Firefox screen. Why? Can something be done so that the Norton Toolbar appears in the Firefox screen again? I sure *hope* so, as I depend on their Identity Safe program. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 - 64 bit. If you need any more information, please ask.

After reading your post, I uninstalled and then re-downloaded/installed both Norton Internet Security and Firefox. Unfortunately, the Norton Toolbar *still* isn't showing up on the Firefox screen. Did I do something wrong?? What else can I do?? (My apologies, but I am really *frustrated* right now.)
please don't reinstall the software but update it via the symantec liveupdate - as it is described in the link above:
"You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version. It will appear in the LiveUpdate history as Norton Toolbar Add-on for Firefox."
After re-installing Norton, I ran LiveUpdate several times, and there was a patch in there. I did not reboot after doing this, however. Did I screw up?? What can I do now??
i'm no norton user myself, so i can't give more detailed advice unfortunately - after you're fully updated, the norton toolbar should show up as version 2013.3.5.1 under firefox > addons > extensions. if you cannot resolve the issue this way then please contact norton's support - they can likely give you better and more comprehensive support in order to get their product to work...
Hi scotjudy333,
philipp is right. I was having this very issue this morning being frustrated like you, until I came here to read this, and decided to run updates again. You would think that it would update in one sitting but apparently you have to do it more than once. I had to do it about 3 times until I was updated to 2013.3.5.1.
Hope this helps.
Try re-booting your operating system.
I suppose this will sound stupid, but what exactly did you update? Firefox? Norton LiveUpdate? Both? Or, others?
Hi scotjudy333. Oh, all I did was update Norton LiveUpdate several times. So you would go to Norton LiveUpdate, where it will autoupdate...then you have to do it again several times. There is an Item and Status column with the following:
Check for updates - Download Updates - Process Updates
You will know you are done when 'Check for updates' will say "Completed" and 'Download updates' and 'Process updates' turn from a green box to grey, and say 'Not Required' under status.
The first time I did it, all three boxes were green and I left it at that, but I decided to give it a go again, and it updated to another version of the toolbar (one higher than my original and lower than the latest), then when I did it again, it updated to the latest version.
Hope this makes sense.
And just now, there was another update. So apparently we have to keep checking periodically.
Oh I can upload a screenshot...here:
---adding, after reading the-edmeister's response, I did a reboot along the lines as well. Let me know how it goes.

I did LiveUpdate many times, myself, though I haven't re-booted any. Even so, the Norton Toolbar *still* isn't showing in Firefox. I just don't know what to do now. Any recommendations?
Going to Tools--->Add-ons--->Extensions (from the Firefox browser), it will show the addon page. You have to make sure that the Norton's toolbar is enabled. Once you click enabled, you need to restart the browser. What version of Norton toolbar does it say you have now?

Good news!! When I went to Tools/Add-ons, clicked to enable my Norton Toolbar v.2013.3.5.1 and then restarted Firefox, when the browser came back up the Norton Toolbar was there!! Yay!! Thank you so much for your help, jollyjoy!!
Your most welcome! Glad it's up and running for you now!
I've had this problem for the past four months. However, the problem is that Norton doesn't even show up in the add-on manager screen. Spent about 6 hours with the Norton super level folks last week trying to fix it. They finally concluded that because Norton was working fine in my other browsers and it was showing that it had successfully installed in Firefox in the installation logs, that it was a Firefox problem. Needless to say, I, and the Norton folks, uninstalled and reinstalled both programs numerous times without success.
cgowen,
If that is a 4 month old problem, it can't be caused by Firefox 21 - which was released 05-14-2013.
If the Norton add-on for Firefox doesn't appear in the Extensions screen, I don't see how Norton support can say that their stuff was successfully installed in Firefox.
Please start your own "question" thread here - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new - and provide the requested information, from your Firefox troubleshooting information from the Help menu.
I have read this entire thread, and it seems I have an issue that these steps are not fixing.
I've updated and rebooted now 10 times. and I have only received "Norton Pulse Updates" for each of the past 7 attempts.
My Norton 360 version is 20.3.1.22
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, as I cant stand using Chrome just to have access to my logins.
Thank You.

Kubi218,
Norton Pulse updates are for the anti-virus application in Norton 360.

Does a Norton extension appear in Add-ons > Extensions in Firefox?
If so, is it enabled?
Which version is it?
My problem obviously started well before Firefox 21 was issued. The Norton team actually attempted to uninstall 21 and then install earlier versions of Firefox to see if the issue could be resolve...no joy. They connected to my PC at 06:55 and departed at 16:04 in frustration. Here is an excerpt from the Norton Liveupdate history:

Your Norton product now has the latest protection updates.,6/12/2013 12:07:25 PM
I've also added an image of the "successful" installation of Norton Toolbar for Firefox from the Norton Assist session on 4 June.
When they left, there were still NO extensions showing in Firefox. The only way I could partially resolve the problem was to try to completely uninstall Firefox and all Firefox folders and files. Then I copied all of the Firefox 21 files and folders from my laptop running the same Windows 8 64-bit configuration and the same Norton 360 Premier configuration to my PC. I then reinstalled a fresh download of FF21, rebooted, ran liveupdate, and got some of the extensions back (see image with my original post), but not Norton.

I've used Firefox for probably over 10 years, and until this year have been happy with it. However, the Norton Toolbar problem JUST STARTED for me (October 2013). Because newer versions of Firefox don't work with Flash (at least on my PC they don't) I have stuck with FF 21. Until I rebooted yesterday, Norton Toolbar (2013.4.3.7) worked just fine with FF21; after the reboot, the toolbar was missing; the Add Ons Manager now says Norton Toolbar is incompatible with Firefox - and there's no "enable" button to override it. I did Norton LiveUpdate several times, but the result is the same.
If the newer versions of Firefox worked with Flash and Norton, I'd be using them. I downgraded FF deliberately to compensate for this. Losing Norton functionality is a dealbreaker for me. I don't like Google Chrome, but that's where this is leading me.
cr10,
Norton may not support Firefox 21.0 any longer, now that Firefox 24 was released. Please check with Norton support for help, seeing that you are using an unsupported version of Firefox.
