cannot print from the web...can print from notepad or wordpad since
Using Firefox well over a year with a Lexmark printer. Switched to an Epson printer yesterday and used the Epson install disk as instructed. Tried to print 2 different items from the internet tonight and got a msg that the printer could not communicate with the PC. Called Epson who had me print a test om Notepad and print it. Printed fine. Epson said it is not a problem with the printer but rather a conflict with Internet Explorer (which I no longer use at all). Can you advise. The Epson shows as Default in my control panel and I have disconnected and reconnected my USB cable, the printer power cable and have restarted my PC.

Bob please remove your Email address, there are spam bots that cruse forums looking for things like that. Also what starts here ends here, if other people are having this issue and the answer is not here it won't be very helpful.
Removing printer:
Unplug the printer from your computer. Go to "Start" and open "Devices and Printers". In here you will find your printer. Right click the icon and tell it to "Remove Device" When the Printer is removed restart Windows and be sure the printer is not available. At this point plug the printer back in and turn it on Win7 should hunt down a driver for it that works. Remember the word "works" just because Win7 found a driver and installed it doesn't mean it is the greatest driver.
Epson is one of the original designers of printers I would be shocked if they did not have the driver you need right on the Web. That being said, that is where Win7 would receive the driver. BUT Win7 is going to pull from a pool of drivers based on what they get back from pinging your printer, they will pull what is said to work by the printer builder, it would be up to the printer builder to keep the pool up to date.
So once you are up and running you may want to go to Epson and search that out. The proper Epson driver may give you options Win7 won't know about.Ler esta resposta no contexto 👍 0

I would remove the Epson print driver completely. Restart the computer and plug in the USB cable and turn the printer on. Win7 will find the correct driver for the printer by itself.
A lot of manufacturers are making bad drivers for their hardware for Win7.
DPMR-Thanks for your reply. It sounds logical but I don't want to make a mistake. What do I do to remove the Epson print driver? I ask because I don't know if you mean I should uninstall the Epson program entirely. How do I remove the Epson print driver?

Did as you said. Looked like Epson searched and entered a driver. It searched for 4 categories and eventually said they were all "OK". Tried to print an email but still got the message saying the printer could not communicate with the computer. Have also received a message saying my "servers license has expired". I will call Comcast and see what they say. I will keep your email on file until I can print emails, etc (from the net) and will let you know. Thank you, I will keep you advised.
Just got off the phone with Comcast. They said if I can bring up web pages, etc it is not a problem with the internet and suggested I call Microsoft (like that will happen).
I noticed it is still trying to access my old Lexmark printer even though I put a checkmark in the Epson spot as the Default Printer. I think I will take the Lexmark printer out of my Devices then retry and see if it goes to the Epson.
Try resetting all of the printer preferences in Firefox:
- type about:config in the Location/URL bar and press the Enter key
- accept the warning (promise to be carefule)
- Filter = Lexmark
- in the lower panel, right-click on each item and choose "Reset"
- when all are reset, exit Firefox (Firefox button > Exit OR File > Exit), wait a few seconds (10-20) and restart Firefox

Not related to your question, but...
You need to update some plug-ins:
- Plug-in check: https://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
- Shockwave Flash (Adobe Flash or Flash): Updating Flash in Firefox
- Next Generation Java Plug-in for Mozilla browsers: Installing or Updating Java in Firefox
That was it...................once I took the Lexmark out it works perfectly.
Thanks very much for teaching me something new and very helpful.
All if OK again...............had to take my old Lexmark printer out of my Devices and Printers. Now it picks up and uses my Epson
