firefox 22.04 with 116.0.3 hangs, when closed reports firefox crash
I cannot use firefox. About the third or fourth tab or window I open hangs up, and then all of firefox hangs up. The triggering load can be from bookmarks or a new site. Have rebooted, re-opened: same problem. Have updated everything (including snap), same problem. Uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, same problem. Troubleshooting crashes and will not re-start

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Firefox usually does NOT crash; it hangs up (not loading pages/ tabs and unresponsive). no error messages. When I THEN close it, I get a message: "Firefox had a problem and crashed. Unfortunately the crash reporter is unable to submit a crash report. Details: the application did not leave a crash dump file"

Please give the programmers some time.
Sure, I am HAPPY to have them working on it. But in the meantime, Firefox is un-useable for me since I never know when it's going to sop working, and then have to got through several steps, usu. including a reboot to get it to work again...

Fully understandable. Thanks for reporting the issue.
You could try creating a new profile. In the article linked below there is a section telling you how to open the profile manager when Firefox is closed.

I neglected to mention that I have tried that too, both before and after removing and re-installing. Will try the troubleshooting mode again today to see if that still crashes Firefox.
Your graphics driver is "llvmpipe" which is a software renderer of last resort, indicating something is wrong with your graphics configuration. Install your graphics drivers and/or check for related environment variables, like GALLIUM_DRIVER and LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE.
I don't know how to do either (install graphics drivers and/or check for related environment variables, like GALLIUM_DRIVER and LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE). Directions?
Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla, run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
Are you in X11 or Wayland? What Desktop? I assume Ubuntu 22.04.

You can see environment variables by using the env command in a terminal.
