Please follow the instructions and step:

Do you possibly have disabled multi-process in Firefox by using the MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S environment variable (its value doesn't matter) ?

• Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment variables

• Bug 1638652 - Content-Encoding not honored when e10s is turned off via browser.tabs.remote.autostart=false or MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S=1

Please do not modify network.http.accept-encoding prefs on the about:config page as that will cause other issues, so if necessary reset the prefs to the default value if they appear bold.

Hello, I tried this, and the multiprocess came back in Taskmanager and it worked and the Characters went away. I shut down my laptap.

I have now switched my laptop back on, the multoprocess in TaskManager have gone, and the Characters are back when I go to all webstes.

I don't know how but there was a variable automatically created in System properties/advanced system settings/advanced/environment variables/ called MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S since last update. so, just remove it and the problem will be solved.

I had removed MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S yesterday. Today when I switch on and launch FireFox I am still getting the same Characters back.

You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.

   Options/Preferences -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Advanced
   [ ] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" 

You can check for sandbox security related issues.

You can set this pref to 2 or 1 on the about:config page to lower the sandbox security setting.

   close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste ppdc and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.documentchannel.ppdc preference to switch the value from true to false

That change rolls back something new in Firefox 77 that isn't compatible with single-process, but it doesn't switch Firefox to multi-process.

Today I have an new issue. I launch FireFox and I get this... I chose restore, I did nothing. I cleared all tem files, launched FireFox again and got the same message.

I losing patience with FireFox, it used to work find before they started changing things.

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
• (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

That scramble looks a bit like a Word .docx file. Normally, it would be decoded and made available as an attachment and not barfed up into the message body.
