I've always hit control + e to start typing in a url. For example, by hitting control + e and then typing google.com it would take me to the website, google.com. However from today, by hitting control + e, the cursor does appear on the top bar, but a question mark appears as well at the start of the bar and a descriptive text says "search with Google". Whatever I type at that point, is searched by Google. It won't take me straight to the site. I'd like to revert that to the way it was, is there something on my end I can tweek or is it just a thing of a new version and I have no control over it? Firefox version: 65.0 OS: Windows 10

hi, Ctrl + E is the shortcut to perform a search/focus the search bar. if you just want to focus the address bar F6, Alt + D and Ctrl + L would be the official shortcuts for that.

Oh really? But I've been using Ctrl + E for such a long time. I'm certain it did the thing I described. Just checked that Ctrl + E does the thing I described in Chrome as well. Was it unintended then and now they removed it?

if you didn't have a combined address bar it would put the focus into the search bar. i guess now in firefox 65 they gave the shortcut the specific functionality to perform a search for users who are just having the address bar as well...

Oh, well that makes sense. Thanks for providing a possible explanation. You wouldn't happen to know if there's a way to change that on my copy of the browser, would you?
