Recently upgraded to 42.0 on my computer.

One site where I used to go to check my utility bill does not accept my log in entries. Locks my account after repeatedly trying the correct user name and password. Opens fine with Safari. Another site does not allow me to access Estatements. Error message. Functionality on site it otherwise good. Works with Safari. I'd rather not use Safari.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

You also might try typing your password into another program where you can see the characters, then copy/paste to the password field on the website and see whether that works. If it does, perhaps something is modifying the letters and numbers as you type into that field, such as anti-keylogger software or a similar add-on.
