Thunderbird: Since the last automatic beta update, I cannot access my emails or links

Thunderbird is set to automatically download new versions -- apparently, I am on the beta list. Since the last beta update two weeks ago, I have been unable to access the contents of my emails without "reply"-ing to the email. Even when I do peruse the content in the would-be reply, I am unable to access any of the links in the email.

I have a PC, and am running Windows 7.

Whoever is responsible for changing the parameters in the last beta version, please fix this very devastating error. I am not literate in computer language; I am an everyday user. Thunderbird has become much more trouble than I am able to reasonably navigate. Thank you.

Do you know why you are on the beta channel? This is provided for those who wish to test upcoming versions and release candidates and the like, and by definition, may offer software that is significantly buggy.

Occasionally a user may be steered towards a beta because it has a fix for a known problem. We're not too good at putting that user back on the main track when the formal release has caught up. :-(

I'd suggest that you:

  1. back up your profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
  2. install current mainstream Thunderbird from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all.html

There should be no need to uninstall your present version of Thunderbird, particularly if you allow the new one to set itself as default mail client when installing it.

I followed your instructions and Thunderbird is working fine again. I'm on the "Average Jane" list now. I appreciate your help. Thanks for taking time out for your feedback.
