- I've got 2 Firefox windows opened, window A and window B - my Gmail inbox is opened in window B, always the case - I'm using window A - I log in a website on window A, then suddenly window B is put in front - Please note that I don't loose focus on window A and I can log in, obviously not very handy

Unfortunately: - I'm unable to reproduce this behavior - I can't say for sure it's always occuring when login in a site - It's doesn't happen very often

There's a good chance this is related to a bug that kicks in when you do not have Flash running in any tab and you open a new window to a page that does use Flash. The details and known workarounds are in this thread: Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash.

probably not very helpful comment / question: so the problem is only if the two windows overlap, with B covering up A, that's still keeping the focus (!?) ?

Thanks smo . . . when the problem occurs the 2 windows are overlaping indeed . . . B covers up A . . . while A keeps the focus . . . that is correct

follow-up : I narrowed it down !

  • running Firefox in safe mode : still getting the problem
  • problem occurs no matter what is taking place in window A (clicking, page being loaded, ...)

And most importantly :

  • Gmail inbox in window B : problem
  • another site in window B : NO problem !

Thanks very much jscher2000 - - - I had filed a bug at Mozilla.org, and got the same solution just a few hours before you posted here. This solved the problem ! (I disabled Protected Mode in Flash)
