Surely this can't be a specifications issue, it's a more capable device than the Wildfire, which is in the list, and yes, I know it's only Android 2.2. Because it's no longer in your list, the Play Store will NOT allow it to be installed, and Google say that is your (Mozilla's) responsibility.

What have you got exactly ?

The listing

And gives the minimum spec as

Firefox is compatible with Android 2.2 and above devices. Installation requires about 16 MB internal storage, 384 MB of RAM and a display that is at least 320 pixels wide and 240 pixels high. You can download Firefox for Android (LINK)* or search for Firefox in the Google Play store.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.

I have an original HTC Desire (sometimes referred to as a HTC Bravo) as released in March 2010.

It has Android 2.2.2 , 69 MB free internal storage, 576 MB RAM, Display is 480 x 800 pixels (or 800x480 if you prefer).

CPU is 1 GHz Scorpion (Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon).

It ran Firefox quite happily (without the known reset problem) until I had to do a factory reset for other issues.

Hope that clarifies the issue slightly.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Looking into this further I find that it appears to be a specific bug with the HTC desire on Android 2.2

If you are able to upgrade to Android 2.3 you may be ok. This wiki

suggests Android 2.3 may be officially available for the HTC desire. Looking around I see conflicting information about availability of official upgrades, partly dependent apparently on the location or possibly the carrier/contract.

Beware rooting and flashing devices is advanced and risks bricking the device.

If you consider that be extremely careful what instructions you follow and be aware that following outdated instructions or instructions for a slightly different device or Android minor version may leave you with an irretrievably broken device. ( IIRC even Using official HTC utilities or up grades may seriously affect what options you next have)

If your device is already rooted, or has a security setting allowing installing apps from other sources then just use the link in my last post.

Hi John, Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately that only gives the information that it was removed from the list, and not very clearly at that.

Your second link is the important one, and reading through it, gives the information that a small number of developers had a reproducible bug (and others didn't), and as a result the kneejerk reaction was to bar all 6 million Desires from installing it. Even a request to make it easier to find the FTP link was ignored.

Looking through my downloads, I have found fennec-6.0b6, & I almost certainly have something later on an unsupported AC100.

I will investigate the FTP site for something suitable, I found the link before, even though it's well obscured, so I don't anticipate any difficulty finding it again.

BTW, your LINK in your first answer only gives the Play Store, not anywhere else.

Sorry about that link

BTW, your LINK in your first answer only gives the Play Store, not anywhere else.

No time to do it today but I will try to follow up and get more appropriate links added. Looks like the ftp link is
