When searching for a web site from the address bar (e.g., typing Ebay into the address bar, then pressing Enter) an error message appears stating that the following file cannot be found: jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesebay. Note that the name of the site is appended to the end of the file name. This happens regardless of what I ma searching for (e.g., searching for mozilla results in a message that jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesmozilla cannot be found.

Running FF 4 on Windows 7 SP 1. This happens even when I restart the computer, clear the cache and start FF in safe mode with all extensions disabled. This is a FF 4 issue, did not happen with FF 3.6.15

The jar: issue can be caused by the "Ask.com Toolbar" or the "ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker Toolbar" or the Fox-it toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, I don't have either of those tool bars and I don't use Zone Alarm. I have the problem even if I start FF in safe mode with all add-ons disabled. Thanks, HS

I read the help page about trouble shooting FF. Unfortunately, I'm not that interested in spending any time disabling all the add-ons and extensions one-by-one to see if any is the culprit (This FF 4 bug occurs in safe mode with all add-ons disabled), so - I reverted back to FF 3.6.16 which works just fine as intended. Maybe when FF 4.1 (or 4.10) is released, I'll try FF 4 again.

Thanks to LoveFX4's search here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/801219, we have an answer:

  1. In the address bar, type "about:config", without the quotes
  2. Press the enter key
  3. In the filter window, type "Keyword.url", without the quotes
  4. Double click on the "Value" field, and type in "http://www.google.com/search?q=", without the quotes

Done!

I have the same problem and have asked it on here as well. Cor-el keeps writing about but his stock answer is wrong. I don't have any addons and every time I start Firefox I have to go to about:config to adjust the keyword.url. This problem has been around for months and I have decided to speak with my feet. I understand that Firefox is provided for free, however, they don't seem to want to check these forums out to see what problems people are having and have chosen to rely on volunteers. I had another question about a file that is associated with Firefox that changed several times a week and they also don't seem to know or advise us on what it is about. All that was needed was to confirm that the file was part of Firefox or not. That file was radiowmpcoregecko7.dll.

Looks like Chrome gets a new user.
