" Updates disabled by your system administrator" is the message. I don't have a system administrator unless its me. What can I do?

Some security software thinks that they need to customize Firefox, so you can check this in your Avira Antivirus software.

You can check the about:policies#active page to see whether policies are active (63+).

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\

Note that the mere presence of the "Mozilla\Firefox\" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\ =>
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\

The procedure is clear for PC routines, but non-routine users the registry is a "taboo"!!! I (user and over 80) have laboriously worked through and would like to add the following addition: 'Also, be sure to create a system restore point before working on the registry. ' Procedure for Win 10: 1. click on the Windows icon > scroll to "Windows System" > open > click on "Command Prompt". 2. enter the following command: regedit.exe and press [Enter]. ( Confirm if necessary afterwards the security question)

Older Win issues 1. click on the Windows icon. Enter the following command in the field for Search programs/files: regedit.exe and press the [Enter] key. Then confirm the security prompt. Grüße W.Wastl
