Upgraded from TB 60.9.1 to 78 (via 68). Always set up as a maildir account, with no problems at all.

Pre-upgrade, the mail files had no extension; post upgrade, they are all .eml. My mail folders now contain a mixture of .eml files (long complex filenames), and files with no extension (e.g. just called "1565451542668000"), which look pretty much like .eml files when I view them with Notepad.

Question: should I take any action to convert the no-extension files to .eml files in order to avoid any problems with searching, for example, or is it OK to have this odd mix of file types in the mail folders? Maybe just rename all the no-extension files to .eml, or perhaps do an export/import operation to do the job for me? I somehow think it would be better if all files in the mail folders had the same extension.

Here's what I did in the end: Dragging and dropping files out of and back into TB didn't seem too reliable with multiple files selected, so I just added .EML file extensions to all the files that had no extension. Then rebuilt the .msf files for each changed folder, as well as the global search database. As far as I can see, everything works just fine in TB. I then added the folder path to Windows Search, making sure that EML file types were registered for searching file properties and contents, with the MIME search filter. Windows Search can now find anything in the folders that I updated, as well as the TB search options. Hope this helps!

I have a question about maildir in Thunderbird: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1320435

You, apparently,have been using it for some time. Does it work well? Is it reliable? Much of what I have searched out leaves it in doubt, and at best, experimental. Confident documentation does not seem to exist. What is your take on it? What is your experience/opinion?
