I am using Firefox Browser 71.0(64-bit) with xubuntu. Recently I have problems trying to select 'right click' options. If I right click on a selected area of text for example, when I move the mouse pointer to select an option from the menu the menu disappears. Sometimes a selection is made by the system, (usually the top one) and whatever is highlighted can be 'cut'. Alternatively, I must hold down the mouse button and move the mouse pointer the my selection and then release the button thus making the selection (never sure it is actually made!) I was thinking of changing to Chrome but I prefer Firefox because I can re-direct it's cache etc to a HD rather than an SD drive. So, I await a solution please.

Are you using the Firefox from Mozilla or someplace else?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I am in safe mode now and the problem still exists.

Firefox was installed from the linux repos and is 71.0-build5-0ubuntu0. Safe and easy web browser from Mozilla.

I copied that last sentence, tried to paste it here and the system cut the '.' I had typed after the 'o' and did not paste anything. That is another problem I get, cutting last typed characters if the selection at the top of the menu is 'Cut'.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

Will it use all my current settings or do I need to export/save?

The new install should find your current profiles.

Even in Linux?

Do I need to uninstall FF first? Or, can I just install over existing?

Firefox from the Mozilla server should use the same profile, but it is always a good idea to backup your personal data in the profile folder regularly.

Yes I know how to do all that from previous installs/re-installs but there is quite a warning in this new install so I'm just checking.

Am I right that if there were previous problems I should uninstall then delete the 'program file' folder (not the profile folder), before install the new file?

Actually I am having second thoughts now. I thought I needed a Firefox account to use this forum but I see I now need an account just to use Firefox.

You do need an account to use website forms and such, but you don't need an account to use Firefox. To use sync, and some add-ons, an account would be needed with that service.

But when I went to install Firefox again having uninstalled it I could not get any further than the message "You need an account".

I did not see any other way to progress, like an alternative link.

That is probably for the sync, press <cancel> or the escape key.

Can you attach a screenshot?

You can close the tab asking to add more devices as you have finished installing Sync on your device.
