I want to install thunderbird on my laptop and acess my desktop profile..how?

I want to keep my Thunderbird email files stored on my desktop but I want to access them from my laptop. I want to be able to install Thunderbird on my laptop - point it to my desktop - and read emails from that database. I would also like to send emails from my laptop as well as the desktop.
