I connected to imap server with Thunderbird . I get message box saying that security certificate need to be changed / updated . I select cancel to this. Next thing I know all the email folders and emails in the imap and pop3 accounts are deleted. I restart computer and Thunderbird connects to imap server but all the folders in Thunderbiard are empty ........ Is there a tunderbird log file

How do i prevent this form happening again ???? Does any one know what happened ???

Any thoughts would be good ............

I would expect the local cache of IMAP mails to be deleted. you can't contact the server and a bug means Thunderbird continues with the sync even though the server is not there. YOU REFUSED BY CLICKING CANCEL.

This should not affect POP mail, so I suggest you check your assumptions about deleted mail.

Who is the issuer of the certificate? Often I see people complaining about certificates issued by their anti virus program. As if I would trust an anti virus program with my encryption keys. Just disable email scanning and scanning of encrypted connections is usually enough to get the anti virus out of the picture. I also see folks using self signed certificates. they are simply no longer acceptable and have not been for years.
