What does * mean in unread mail count Inbox (*4) ? It is new this this update.

Why do emails show as a number in unread (4*) when they are in gmail folder in Trash and Spam ?

Can I make all emails in Trash and Spam show as read ?

This is annoying. I look for unread emails and they are previously deleted before reading emails in Trash or in Spam

Mark junk/spam as read is set in options / security / junk

It could be useful to keep it "unread" just if you want to "unjunk" any

If you empty trash at exit there is no need to mark them as read. (Mine was marked as read when they arrived in trash)

Like I said INBOX (*4) used to say INBOX (4). Why the * ?

Can I make everything deleted get automatically marked as 'Read' ? Emptying the trash 20 times a day for 6 different email addresses would be a pain.

I don't know how your TB looks like, Everything I manually put in trash is automatic marked as read. Everything I let a filter put there is marked as read by the filter.

I have set up to empty trash on exit. (settings/server settings) My IMAP accounts also clean up INBOX on exit.

You know, trashing a message doesn't remove it, it just is marked as "don't show, deleted" First when you compact (that is rewrite) the folder (inbox ...) will it be physically removed.

So instead of emptying trash 20 times a day I just exit and reopen TB. AND run file / compact folders

And inbox(*4) .... have no idea. can't make it happened

TB takes 30 second to open. I always get a script error box that refers to Script: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js:1427. If I closed and opened TB 20 times a day, I'd be waiting all day.

This * in the (*4) did not show up until the TB upgrade a few days ago.

Now, I have this stupid TB calendar bar across the bottom asking me to LEARN, DISABLE, or KEEP. Why is Mozilla fixing things that are not broken ?

I delete from the INBOX folder. They show up in trash but the ALL Mail folder stills shows them as unread.

You can disable or keep Lightning (the calender) as you wish. Its an add-on that many use, therefore its been bundled with this update. I personally don't use it, so I first disabled it. All traces gone! Now, I have reinstalled it. Needed to know whats happening in TB.

You shouldn't subscribe to "All Mail". Depending on your Gmail - setup or any server that uses that setup type, All Mail might keep everything. And is updating your All Mail subscription every time you start. That can only be setup in server thru webmail. edit: (The All Mail behavior, that is)

You should (if your not already doing it) compact your boxes. Ones again, server trash can be set to delete immediately or wait until you compact. Without compact you have a huge inbox (and All Mail) with all the deleted mails still there.

Keep Inbox small and do NOT subscribe to All Mail. That will probably speed up your TB a lot
