I'm use to having the address bar directly to the right side of my main menu ( you know, the file, edit, view, history, etc. To the right side of that.)

I installed Firefox 38 yesterday morning and am still tinkering about trying to get stuff to where it all USE to be at.

However, now the address bar is directly below the main menu.

Can you please help me get the address bar back up to where it use to be?

You can only have the location/address bar customizable and be able to move it if you use the Classic Theme Restorer exception. By default the location bar is fixed to the Navigation Toolbar and can't be moved.

You can see this article, which may help you: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Sashoto, thanks but all of the information is what I saw first BEFORE even posting my question. 100% not helpful at all.

Hi, are you using an add-on like Classic Toolbar Buttons? If so, you may need to look at its settings, or disable/re-enable it.

Note that the default is for the menu bar to be above the address bar - in fact, the menu bar should be above the tab bar.

If you have other add-ons Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

"Hi, are you using an add-on like Classic Toolbar Buttons? If so, you may need to look at its settings, or disable/re-enable it." Yup. Did that. Twice. No change.

"Note that the default is for the menu bar to be above the address bar - in fact, the menu bar should be above the tab bar." It is. I simply have the addon Hide Tab Bar With One Tab installed. (I have a passionate hate for tabs, so this addon is a god-send for me.)

It's just that, in the past, I was able to move the address bar up so it would be directly beside and to the right of the menu bar. Less wasted space on by browser makes me happy.

"If you have other add-ons Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away." Have tried that several times yesterday, as well as today. The address bar simply will not move.

I'll be rather sad if they've permanently docked the address bar beneath the menu and tabs bar and that it's 100% not movable from that location. I mean, I'll adjust to it in due time *if I have no other choice*, but still.

Scribe, are you using Firefox 38.0.5? If you are, is the address bar movable at all for you?

Hi, yes I'm using the latest version as should everyone, because older versions may compromise security. Since I have my own customisation for the toolbars, I'm afraid I don't want to fiddle with it to find out if the address bar is moveable - although I suspect not.

If you have tried dragging as in this article - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars to no avail - and buttons can be dragged (proving it isn't frozen), it looks like it is fixed and you will have to live with it. The only other thing I can think of, is to click on Restore Defaults - but it's a long shot!

Dang. Well that's rather depressing to hear. Thanks for letting me know, in any case. I appreciate it!
