Since Mavericks firefox is in my case always on top of the list of "Apps using significant energy". To my surprise since FF38 it no longer shows up. I was relieved at first, but investigating further leads me to think that something is wrong, and firefox is no longer showing up at all in the activity monitor.

In the attached image you can see that firefox is active, but not showing up in the energy tab of the activity monitor.

Is Mozilla actively circumventing OSX's energy consumption monitor?

Only if you are actively using this. To give you an idea, I tried to open mine and had a spike to 30 when I clicked on Firefox in the energy tab.

You may have to ask in the apple forums how to read this to see what exactly this means: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/use-activity-monitor-energy-tab-os-x...

Since it includes a number of performance items these are the ways to change parts of the impact on your computer's battery life in Firefox:

but that doesn't explain why the firefox application is not showing up at all in the energy tab, as the image attachment shows. You can see in my dock that firefox *is* running, and the normal process list also shows this.

So to be pedantic, I'm not talking about the list which unfolds if you click the battery logo in the upper right, which shows Apps who are using significant energy - really talking about my screenshot, applications with no energy impact should be listed as well. It seems as though firefox is hidden from the energy monitoring.
