Why doesn't Firefox actually block sites that it set to?

In Options/Accept Cookies/Exceptions, I set sites like doubleclick.net to be blocked but yet every time I run Norton, it finds cookies from sites like this and has to delete them. Why isn't Firefox blocking them.

Did you spell the domain name correctly on the Exceptions list? Is it possible that the cookies are from other browsers?

Thank you for your interest.

Things are spelled correctly. The one wrinkle is that the cookies all start with my first [email protected]. When trying to enter that complete name, only the domain (@doubleclick.net) shows as blocked. This also happens with several other spy domains.

Where does Norton find those cookies?

Is that in the Firefox profile folder?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can also check the settings for third-party cookies.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

I assume Norton 360 Scans finds them in the cookies folder. I only use Firefox so they are not from another browser and I have the domains blocked (doubleclick.net) in the Exceptions box in Privacy Settings.

How do you block cookies in Firefox? You should go to Options > Privacy > Exceptions... and add the domain names to the list. To delete cookies that may still exist, go to Options > Privacy > Show cookies..., search for cookies from spy domains and delete them.

That is exactly what I have done and the domains still add cookies.
