Crashes almost daily on new windows 8 laptop, latest FF.
2 month old Dell laptop, Windows 8, latest Firefox, Windows is up to date, drivers are up to date, plugins are up to date, Norton 360 is up to date, cat is up to date, wife is up to date. FF just decides to crash, seemingly unrelated to any other event(s). This has been going on since the computer was new, on previous version of FF and now on the newest version.

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
- Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
- In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
- In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
- Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
That looks like a problem with components of your Norton software, possibly Norton Confidential (symhtml.dll, couictlr.dll). Make sure that you have the latest updates.
You will have to disable those components and contact Norton to ask advice.
Update. It just crashed again. It crashed when I clicked the "share" button on Norton. This is the 1st time I ever used the "share" button as I didn't know what it was until researching the crashes. Maybe this points toward Norton's Toolbar, eh? Or not? I have just disabled Norton Share to see if that helps. Any ideas? Mike
Yes, any norton related addons need to be disabled. Go to Firefox button > Addons > Extensions and disable all norton toolbars.
"Any norton related addons need to be disabled." With all due respect, that's easy for you to say, but the Norton password "vault" and Safeweb are 2 toolbar features that are important to me. Rather than disable Norton Toolbar and these security features, I'm more inclined to disable FF and find a different browser, at least until Norton/FF gets this worked out.
Just disable them for a short while, does Firefox crash?
OK, I get your point, I'll try that. They are now disabled.
