I am using MAC PRO, system 10.6.8 and for some reason, I upgraded to FF 21 and my HD started to get corrupted. I had to revert back to 20 and everything seem to be ok. I used disk utility to fix it and that worked but am afraid if I continue to upgrade I will get these error messages. I am not sure if this is the issue.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

In what way does the hard drive get corrupted?

Do you get error massages from the Mac OS?

Hi,

Haven't tried safe mode yet. Will try it soon but in regards to the 2nd question my MAC Pro acted strangely. Start up time was longer than expected and got a blank screen with no menus on top. I used the disk utility disk using VERIFY, it gave me a message saying node is 3342555 it should be 32447457. (made up number because I don't remember the number) I repair it and worked for a short time but later the corrupt issue came back.

I also have a Crucial SSD which disappeared on me but Crucial said after so many hours that happens with old firmware so I upgraded the firmware. I got that fixed and upgraded to FF21 again. However, the corruption on my HD still happened. I thought the SSD was causing the problem.

Anyway, I will upgrade again and try the safe mode option and will report back soon. Thank you

Hi,

I am back. A few days ago I tried safe mode and seems to be working with no issues. No corrupt messages anymore. Thank you. Not sure if safe mode did it but it works. (Knock on wood)

Does it still work in normal mode (Safe Mode is meant only for troubleshooting purposes)?
