Error message when starting: McShield.dll: the system cannot find the file specified - what do I do to solve this?
When I start Firefox, the following message appears before the home page opens:
"COMMONSHELL: McShield.dll
The specified resource language ID cannot be found in the image file.
McShield.dll: The system cannot find the file specified."
I click OK, Firefox opens normally and everything seems to operate as expected, no further problems.

I also have this same problem not sure what the fix is or what the impact is other than annoying
Glad to know I'm not alone. Have you tried resetting Firefox? I'm hesitating because of the possibility of having to redo my plug-ins and extensions. The error message is less annoying than the work to restore the p-ins and exts.
hello, the error message is obviously coming from one of the installed mcafee extensions. please directly contact mcafee technical support - they can likely give you more detailed guidance and are the only ones who can fix bugs or make necessary adjustments in the addon.
Thanks madperson. I tried disabling all the McAfee add-ons and then restarting Firefox. The problem persists. Not certain if the problem is due to an add-on or some other aspect of a McAfee update. Will contact them.
Hi bkunz my problems seemed to start when I accepted a McAfee script checker option for Firefox ( not requested or selected by me just auto offer and then accepted by me) - not sure if that is what you experienced but may help in your cal to McAfee - be interested in the result anyway as this is a pain in th eproverbial!
Thanks for the suggestion, McAfee Script Scan is the problem. I disabled McAfee Script Scan in the Add-ons and the message no longer appears, Firefox starts normally. All else seems to work as per usual.
Cheers
Glad it helped but inmy case I cannnot see script scan in add ons in firefox ( don't seem to have any add ons ) - in fact I only see any McAfee entries in plug ins and disabling them does not seem to do anything to the error masg ( Security centre and site advisor) - how exactly did you find scipt scan ?
Sorry if this is all obvious to you, but IMO it's better to be thorough with descriptions. Click on the Firefox tab on the upper left. In the window that appears, click on add-ons (on the right side of the window) and when the add-ons screen comes up you should see a list on the left that includes extensions and plug-ins. Click on extensions. On my computer, McAfee Script Scan for Firefox is listed in the extensions. If that also is the case for your machine, click on the disable tab to the right on the Script Scan bar. If all is right with the universe, that should solve the problem. Good luck.
Bingo - error msg gone . many thanks
Welcome!
