Firefox automatically reverts to prior version!
I upgraded Thunderbird from V 3.1 to V 8.0. Everything worked properly with the upgrade version. Then when I shut it down and restart a dialog box appears. It says it must reboot to return to the prior version. If I don't reboot Firefox can't be started. If I do reboot it starts up fine but it reverts to V 3.1.
I hope someone knows what is happening and can help me fix the problem.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds that you have security software or other (e.g. sandbox, virtualization) software that restores files to its previous versions.

MORE INFORMATION:
I internionally left Thunderbird and Firefix open last night; this morning they were both shut down. When I started them they had both reverted to the prior versions!
Then as in the past when this stated Mazilla states I am using an old version and asks it I want to upgrade. When I do the new version is loaded up but then the whole process repeats itself reverting to the earlier version.
I hope I am not the only one having this problem and some knows how to fix the problem.
Thanks for any help.

Not being highly technical I am not sure how to begin to trace this down. I am not using sandbox, not sure about virtualization; I am using Rebit that can revert back. Could this be an issue?

I finally have Upgraded to FF V9.0 and TB V9.0 !!!!
The problem was not:
"Sounds that you have security software or other (e.g. sandbox, virtualization) software that restores files to its previous versions"
It turned out to be multiple version installed in both my dual boot (Vista W7) OS. Once I uninstalled all FF & TB instances with Revoinstall I could finally install the latest versions.
Hopefully, this info will help someone else.
