I can't open a second browser window.
If I have had a firefox window open and then closed it, I can't get Firefox to open again. I have to shutdown and reboot to be able to get Firefox to open.

That sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit" and is usually caused by an Extension or a Plugin.

Thanks for the helping hand; the problem was one of the extensions loaded by Zone Alarm. I had not the slightest idea where to start looking until you took my hand.
