I cannot send emails from my default address only from my alternative address
The following message occurs all the time 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: not owned by user caplat2.
However if I send a message using caplat2 as the sender the email goes as it should. Why is this. It always worked OK before.

Hi mcap54.
Seems you have wrong configuration of the SMTP server. Please check the account settings, if you use the right SMTP settings for the right account. According the the error message, it seems Thunderbird is trying to send messages from [email protected] with SMTP settings and credential for different account ([email protected]), which is denied by the server.

thank you for your reply Michal.
I have tried to alter it but it is set on the default SMTP for my AOL account and I have tried the alternative and it does the same thing. If I go to the settings for my second address, [email protected], it is the same SMTP setting as for the first account. Do I need to reload Mozilla as it seems there is a problem with the programme perhaps. Is it possible that I have been hacked into?
Regards, Marc.
Hi Marc.
Is there any other SMTP server available to set for the [email protected] account? If not, please create it in Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP) (at the bottom).
Have tried resetting to the Default server but the same message appears and not sure what other servers are available to me but the AOL server works OK for the second address, [email protected] so find it hard to understand what is going on. Would it be better to Thunderbird altogether and reload it. Problem is I did this a long time ago and lost all my email addresses.
regards, Marc.
Hi Marc.
The problem is probably right in the default SMTP server, which is set for [email protected], so it won't work for [email protected].
Please go to Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP)? How many SMTP servers do you see there?
If more than one, click on them to see their specification below. If there is one with [email protected] as a Username, set it in Account Settings > [email protected] > Outgoing Server (SMTP).
If there is no mentioning [email protected], simply add one and set it as mentioned above. The settings will be probably the same as for existing default SMTP server for [email protected], except the Username of course. Also when sending a message for the first time, you will be probably asked for [email protected] mailbox password.
