I'm currently running Firefox 31.0. I've noticed within the last month that on occasion, if I close Firefox and open it later, a tab or tab(s) (it seems random) will have old data loaded from the last time I had opened firefox, as if I had never modified the tab.

For example, suppose I'm browsing a forum and I open a topic at page 1. I close Firefox, the magical corrupting fairy visits and hits that tab, then I open Firefox on that tab later. I browse a few pages, and then decide I want to close firefox after reaching page 5. When I open Firefox, the tab opens at page 1, instead of the last state I had left it at (page 5).

The problem can be solved by closing the tab, and then opening a new one at the same address. However, I fear something larger is at work here since this has happened twice so far in the last month. I've just tried resetting firefox, and the problem persists (even when running it in Safe Mode).

Has anyone else seen this, or can anyone else offer advice?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

I had a bad feeling someone would suggest simply clearing all of my tabs - the problem is, I've become so used to Firefox remembering my tabs (correctly), I've just started opening groups upon groups of tabs. It'll be awhile before I'm in the position to reset the session ;)

In the mean time, I have Norton 360, although the problem hasn't been around as long.
