How do I set my tabs to open with my home page?
When I open a tab, how can I get it to open to my Home Page - the page I have set to open when opening Firefox?

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type about:Config.
If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter browser.newtab.url
and press enter. browser.newtab.url
tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened.
If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the
setting to;
about:home (Firefox default home page),
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),
about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any web page you want.
The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as
browser.startup.homepage.

To cause new tabs to open at your home page in all windows:
I have added specific instructions to clarify exactly where entries should be made to the useful solution by Fred McD. (I'm using Firefox v. 29.0.1).
The procedure is now very easy: just be careful with spelling of entries.
Begin by opening a new window or tab. In the address (aka URL/location) bar, type about:config. If a warning screen comes up, click the Be Careful message.
A new search bar appears below the address bar. Type browser.newtab.url in it and press Enter.
Below the new search bar is a new header: Preference Name, followed by a long list list of all the possible preferences (settings) that can be changed (one of which is browser.newtab.url). There is no explanation of the function of each; nor is there a corresponding list of possible values for each setting, so before you change one, record its value.
Right click on Preference Name and from the resulting drop-down list click on Modify. A small window will open which contains a field containing the current value for browser.newtab.url. Note its value, then overwrite it with about:home to select the default Firefox home page for all new tabs. The new setting is immediately active: close the window.
This method leaves the address bar of a new tab blank, unlike clicking the Home icon, so a different URL may be quickly entered if desired. (The new tabs have the unexpected generic title "Mozilla Firefox Start Page")
Other possible settings are:
about:newtab (shows the site most visited) about:blank (a blank page) any web page address (URL) you choose
The same instructions apply to New Window settings, but beginning with the entry browser.startup.homepage .
