I cannot send messages as Thunderbird won't accept my password.
My password works when I sign into AOL.com, and I can get and send email via Windows 10 Mail without problems, so I don't think it's my password.
Also, I can *get* emails through Thunderbird using the password. It just says that the password is wrong over and over when I put it in to *send* mail.
The mail provider and ISP are AOL/Verizon. It used to be Verizon mail, but they merged with AOL.
Firewall and Antivirus are Norton Antivirus version 22.20.1.69
Windows 10
Thunderbird version 68.6.0
I attached images of my smtp settings and the imap/pop settings recommended by AOL.
My Thunderbird email account is set up as a POP.
Thank you so much! :-)

Verizon could be experiencing downtime with their smtp servers. This is one of several similar threads that have been started, all regarding Verizon, in the last 24 hours.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your reply.
I am still not able to send mail via Thunderbird, as it will not accept my password.
I am still, however, able to send mail via Windows 10 Mail, as I stated in my previous post.
I am also still able to send mail via the AOL app on my smartphone.
Yes, not all apps are affected by this, expecially the AOL app. Third-party apps, however, face this problem at some point. This glitch has been happening for a long time. See https://jimmytechsupport.com/no-verizon-not-shutting-verizon-net-email-address/ and https://downdetector.com/status/aol/

The problem seems to have resolved itself.
Thank you so much for the replies.

I am having trouble again, but I will chalk that up to Verizon for now.
Chalk it up to Yahoo. That is the underlying issue. Verizon have moved to Aol which they rolled into Yahoo. Yahoo require the use of oAuth authentication or some bizarre "key". ATT as a fellow Yahoo provider have some information on their web site.
What has worked for some folks is to set the server details to yahoo using the non yahoo email address as the user name and oAuth as authentication method. A little messy, but a work around for the incompetence being demonstrated by the Verizon/AOL/Yahoo mail empire.
