I was not able to join my firefox on this computer to my firefox account. Isn't the sync password the same as the firefox account password. So the question is when I first start my firefox it asks for a password and the same when I want to see a password I have already stored. The strange thing is it states that it is the wrong password when I choose to login in to my firefox account. So now I am concerned because I received this email on April 1st and thought this was suspicious.

I received this email (also see image attached): From: Firefox Account Team <[email protected]> Subject: Make the most of your Firefox

i just signed up for a firefox accont for this forum today and i assumed at first that i could sign in with my sync info. that wasn't so and i needed to create a separate username (sync just uses my email) and password.

i know that doesn't answer your question about the email. i did google whether e.mozilla.org was a legitimate sender for mozilla and it appears that it is. my read on the email is that it is just a bit of marketing, but being wary and safe are always good ideas :)

The password you need to enter when you start Firefox and when you want to see the passwords stored in the Password Manager is the master password that is used to encrypt and decrypt the stored passwords.

This is different than the password of the Firefox Account that is used for Sync. Sync stores the credentials (JSON format) for the Sync account in the Password Manager and when you use Sync then you need to enter the master password when you start Firefox to make it possible to get the credentials for Sync account that are stored in the Password Manager. The fact that you get this MP prompt when you start Firefox would indicate that you successfully connected to Sync and that would explain the email(s) you received regarding Sync. So everything seems to be OK.
