This problem I believe just cropped up with the latest version of Firefox on Windows 51.0.1. When I click on a URL in ANY of my Email Programs it launches Firefox but then Firefox hangs. It does not display the website BUT this only happens if Firefox was CLOSED. If I already have Firefox OPEN then the URL works fine and FIREFOX goes to the website without a problem,

Here's what I've done troubleshooting already.

Tried resetting Firefox....Did not work....Problem remained. Tried completely uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox....Did not work...Problem remained. Disabled Antivirus ( Kaspersky Internet Security)...Did not work...Problem remained.

This problem I believed just cropped up with this latest version of Firefox. I have this same version on another computer with the same antivirus/settings and the problem does not exist.

I'm stumped...I believe I've seen this problem in the past with upgrades but can't seem to find the fix.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM...NEW VERSIONS of FIREFOX are opening TWO Copies of FIREFOX.EXE on Some Computers to support a new feature called E10s. I Found this issue when I checked a computer that did not have the problem of launching URLs from Email applications. I noticed that Firefox on that computer did not have Firefox.exe running twice. I found the fix was to disable this NEW FEATURE by doing changing

browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 preference to switch the value from true to false in about:config

Now just one instance of Firefox.exe is open in task manager details and when I click on a Email URL it opens correctly in Firefox even when Firefox was CLOSED.

I uninstalled it again...Then installed an older version 50.1 but the problem remains...Only will open a URL from ANY Email Program if Firefox is already OPEN....If Firefox is CLOSED and I click on an Email Link Firefox will open and hang...It will not proceed to the URL's address. I also tried setting to FALSE the setting in about:config "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" but that also did NOT fix the problem.
