Go to options-composition-general In the HTML section there is a check box for single space instead of new paragraph.

When you say: "Go to options-composition-general In the HTML section", I assume you mean in the "Tools" section. There is no "general" in the "Options" section. Where is this tab located? Help!
Your wrong on both counts. There is a General under Options and there is a General under Options-Composition-General like the instructions state.
This solution does not work because the options stated do not exist. The only way I have been able to use single spacing when composing an email is to switch from "paragraph" to "body text" on some setting (cant remember which). Even then, after "saving" this to a "template", everyt time I open a new message, the damn thing reverts back to "paragraph" mode. This totally SUCKS, and there seems to be no way to CONTACT Mozilla support. Frustrated to tears.

There is NO SUCH OPTION - A N Y W H E R E . .
I found that I get single spacing between lines as long as I do not use the enter key, which creates a new paragraph. So as long as you keep typing within the same paragraph, you will have single spacing between lines.
I followed the instructions above and did find the HTML section referenced, under Tools/Options/Composition, but there was no box to check or un-check for single space instead of a new paragraph.
