tasks and calendar disappeared trying to install lightning

more options

looking to save my calendar to file so it can be used on other computers, online info lead me to believe I need lightning installed into thunderbird to do this. Tried to download and install lightning, nothing appeared to happen. Tried a second time - same result restarted Thunderbird and my calendar and tasks list disappeared leaving only the email acconts. shut down whole computer and restarted still no calendar or tasks I do not wish to loose all the details in my calendar and task lists so no good installing a new calendar! My thunderbird has just updated to 38.5.0 during the restarts.

If you had a calendar and tasks in Thunderbird you had to have Lightning installed already. Thunderbird and Lightning have matched versions. Maybe you installed an incorrect version of Lightning.

OK but that doesn't help me retrieve my calendar and tasks complete with all the entries in them

looking to save my calendar to file so it can be used on other computers,

Not sure what you're up to. Copying a calendar file to another computer running Thunderbird and Lightning and import it there would work. However, the calendar on the other computer would never be updated or synchronized with the 'main' calendar on the original computer. So this wouldn't make much sense to me.

Correct.

Tried a second time - same result restarted Thunderbird and my calendar and tasks list disappeared leaving only the email acconts.

If you're just trying to initially install Lightning, how did you have a calendar and tasks in the first place?

My thunderbird has just updated to 38.5.0 during the restarts.

Then you should have Lightning 4.0.5 now.

I appreciate the comments but that doesn't help get my calendar etc back. I'm coming to think its Looking like all the task and calendar items have been lost. So will be looking for a different calendar that is not lost so easily and hope all the entries can be remembered.

Do you have Lightning installed now? What version?

It would help if you answered the questions asked in the previous posts too.

I cant confirm for a week or so as I am now currently away from home. So no access to my home computer other than emails and secure cloud based files.

re questions I had thunderbird calendar - it didn't indicate that lightning was/was not part of it - I got the impression they were separate apps from the fact that

"online info lead me to believe I need lightning installed into thunderbird to do this."

If lightning was already installed, why did the system tell me I need it installed?? - not exactly user friendly!

Purely academic now as I will be changing my calendar app and accepting that some appointments etc I may be missed.
