Firefox 42 freezes when I click on link from outlook 2010
When I click on a link from an email in outlook 2010, firefox opens, but the page is blank and firefox goes to not responding. Occasionally it will render part of the page. CPU usage goes to 25% and stays there until I end the process.
I can open firefox from my desktop shortcut and copy and paste the URL from the email into the address bar and I can get to the website just fine.
Also, if firefox is already open when I click on the link from outlook, it will work.
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with all critical updates applied. Firefox 42.0 is up to date.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
Once the browser is open, drop that window to the task bar. Now click on the link from outlook.
Hello there,
Do you see error messages appearing such as "Locate Link Browser" or "General Failure"? The causes and solutions can be found here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_error_opening_Internet_shortcut_or_local_HTML_file_-_Firefox

@ FredMcD Thank you for your response! I agree that this is a workaround (and this is what I have been doing), but it does not fix the issue. I would much rather know why it is occurring and fix it.

@ Machine Master I do not receive any error messages. When I click on the link from outlook 2010, firefox launches, but does not load the page or partially loads the page and then "freezes" (not responding) and uses 25% of CPU. But I do not receive any error messages on the screen.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
After, close the browser and try OutLook again. Are there any problems?
