Characters like apostrophes and quotes are rendered incorrectly.
Here is an example of an e-mail I received: Sometimes you just aren’t motivated, maybe you’re feeling
You can see that the ' changes to ’
The same applies to double quotes.
I have set the Message Body to Plain Text, Simple HTML and Original HTML. No change.
I have set the Character Encoding to Unicode (UTF-8) and Western. No change.
This has been going on for ages and it's most irritating. Can anyone please suggest how I can resolve this annoying issue.
Many thanks!

Hi blobby_man, I don't have this problem, but no, you're not the only one who does. Check out this link: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2006231
It looks like a fix for exactly the same issue you are experiencing.
Hope this helps, Norio

Norio - thank you. That link worked. It solved my problem.
The only slight deviation is that, for some folders, I had to set the “Apply default to all messages in the folder" to yes (rather than "no" as the poster suggests) otherwise the text goes into all capitals.
But the apostrophes and other characters now render properly.
How did you find it? I guess you Googled for "’ thunderbird". That is what I should have done.
You're welcome! Glad I could help. I used Duckduckgo and searched for Thunderbird Character Encoding, and found the link on another page.
