My customer is wanting to have the address book in Thunderbird to be listed in the Windows contacts (Windows 8) so that there is a backup as such in case the Mozilla Thunderbird address book mucks up for some reason or another. We have them in the Thunderbird address book but not in the Windows Contacts...all file types when importing into Windows Contacts doesnt work (e.g. LDIF, CSV and Tab Delimited). When selecting the info to import and hitting finish, nothing happens, just goes back to choosing the type of file to import etc. as if you never completed that step in the first place...Maybe this is more of an issue with Microsoft as opposed to Thunderbird, but just wondering of any suggestions or if someone was able to do this? Much Appreciated, Ez

This is what worked here: open Address Book, select an address book, Tools/Export, Save as type: LDIF, name the file, open Contacts, click Import, select LDIF, click Import, select the LDIF file.

Hey sfhowes, already tried that man, first thing i tried...it is as if its a bug in the contacts program etc...as when you hit finish after selecting what file and the types of columns you want to import (i.e primary email address, First name, Last name etc) it just does nothing, where its supposed to then import the files...There is no problem exporting from Thunderbird, only importing to the Windows Contacts there is an issue...hope this clears up any confusion on the question. Cheers, Ez

The process you're describing applies if a csv (comma separated values) file is being imported, not for an LDIF file. Just to confirm, I opened C:/Users/username/Contacts in Win 8.1 and followed the instructions above for an LDIF file exported from TB. It works correctly if your address book contains the most common fields, but if you have a complex contact structure, it may be necessary to export to a csv and import to Contacts by mapping fields etc.
