VMWare plugin not showing up
I had installed VMware-VMRC.x86_64.bundle for being able to launch vCenter consoles from an ESXi machine. I downloaded the plugin, chmod +x VMware-VMRC.x86_64.bundle, then sudo ./VMware-VMRC.x86_64.bundle. It asked where the Firefox binary is stored (/usr/bin/firefox) and where the system wide plugins are stored, which defaults to /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins. Installation was successful and the plugin worked.... Until I rebooted my machine. Now the plugin doesn't show up at all under Tools->Addons->Plugins. I have tried re-installing to no avail. I have reset Firefox back to defaults, and even apt-get purge --reinstall firefox as well. Here is some system information:
ninja@shinobi:~/Downloads$ uname -a Linux shinobi 3.8.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 1 16:35:23 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Here is the pluginreg.dat file. Notice it says it's invalid at the bottom, but doesn't say why:

If anybody knows any information regarding this, please let me know. So frustrating!

Hello ninja9k1,
After some searching on the VMWare support site I found this suggestion from one of their users for an issue similar to yours. Can you try:
- Go to the Mozilla plugins directory: cd /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins
- Remove the invalid symbolic link: rm -f np-vmware-vmrc-e.x.p-422570-64.so
- Create a valid link: ln -s /user/lib/vmware-vmrc/np-vmware-vmrc-e.x.p-422570-64.so np-vmware-vmrc-e.x.p-422570-64.so
- Verify the link: ls -la
Please let us know if this solves your issue and if you require further help the VMWare Community may be a better resource to find a solution.
Regards, Patrick
That are 64 bit versions of the plugin. If you have a 32 bit Firefox version (like normal releases are) then you need 32 bit versions of plugins.
The problem is based on the used of libxpcom.so.
Therefore to solve the problem you can download a Firefox version previous or equal to 21.0. After that, you uncompress the file an copy libxpcom.so to /usr/lib or to a place where the library can be loaded.
You have to delete the pluginreg.dat file to detect all the avaible plugins again.
