I was working on my system normally, shut down normally. Now 2 hours later, I booted up the pc, start up firefox with my www.msn.com homepage and it sits with just the top toolbar and does not show any further activity. The page never displays. The task manager shows that it is running but it goes no where. I can overtype the link to other sites and access them, but msn.com never initializes. If I go to explorer, msn.com initializes with no problems. So what gives?

hello, try to clear the cache & cookies from msn/live.com and reload the page.

I finally deleted all cookies that related to msn. I must have had a corrupted cookie. That finally cleared it up. Thanks for the suggestions.

I spoke too soon. I apparently continue to get corrupted cookies every time I access msn.com. I clear out all cookies related to msn.com and can get into it. The next access is corrupted.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Well it seems as if it was msn.com itself. I had to delete the corrupted cookies for the rest of the day and mysteriously the next day it was fine. Past experience says that the site people figured it out and fixed it. Thanks for the suggestions.
