Bookmark Icons For Some Sites Disappear After Leaving Site
Am running 3.6.19. Recently starting using the Bookmark Toolbar. Under bookmarks on the Menu Bar, the site icons are fine. On the Bookmark Toolbar, some icons are not there until I go to the site (Truthout.org for one) and then the icon appears. After leaving the site for another, the icon goes to the blank icon. How do I fix this?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
I made the change as you suggested. It did not work. After trying everything suggested and what comes to mind, I'm going to create a separate profile and then add just that site. If that works, then it is something to do with profiles, etc., but if it doesn't, then I am going to blame it on the site.
It might be a problem with that website. The file placement of the favicon.ico file is in a remote folder.
/sites/all/themes/truthout_classic/favicon.ico
When that .ico file is in the root directory for the website on the hosting server, Firefox never seems to have a problem saving it. But when it is in a different location or is of an alternative format, Firefox sometimes seems to have trouble saving it to the bookmarks file.
I'm pretty good at finding files but a search for favicon.ico turns up nothing in windows explorer. The suggestion above sounds interesting and would like to explore, but what comes in front of "/sites" in that string? Also, I created a new profile, bookmarked truthout.org and used the bookmark toolbar. It is staying. Also the only thing on that profile running. No other bookmarks, no add-ons etc. This is on my laptop. My desktop that I am using right now is showing the icon. Pretty much the same profile etc, as the laptop. Really baffling. The only thing different on this machine is that there is only one profile. One option is to copy this profile on the desktop, and apply it to the laptop, but I don't know for sure how to do that. So far, I have run into dozens of sites with different suggestions on how to do things, some of them not very helpful.
That is the URL of the favicon as shown in Tools > Page Info > Media:
You can try to place the favicon here:
I pretty much fixed the problem, but without knowing what exactly fixed it. After numerous changes, etc., I created a new profile on my laptop. I went to the Truthout.org site and the icon loaded just fine. Then I saved my bookmarks from my desktop machine and then saved my bookmarks from old laptop profile. I then imported both saves, in html format, into my new profile and spent the better part of the day editing this monster of a mess. Did that because the two machines had different bookmarks, but there were bookmarks on each one that the other didn't have. Someone should come up with a better bookmark editing program. One that could do a batch removal of all the descriptions that Amazon movies adds on and bloats the system would be helpful. Anyway, that fixed the problem, and as I said, don't know why. There were many posts on the subject, and suggestions, but, in some cases, not very complete. I really appreciate all the help from everyone. I build computers, websites, etc., and have found that the expertise level in computer knowledge with many is immensely broad with small areas of brilliance. The explanations given on most of the Firefox forums do a lot of assuming. I think the best way to describe anything in the way of a fix is to spell out every step, not skipping small details on the assumption that it is a given. Anyway, thanks again.
