Only happened when I updated from version 4 to version 5.
I uninstalled version 5 and went back to version 4.
Have now tried 5 again but still the message returns.

Hi teljoy, The problem with the AVG Free supplied extension "AVG Safe" has been going on starting in Firefox 2, and always seems to pick on more people with each version update that somehow managed to work with Firefox despite the extension.
AVG Free antivirus is okay.
What is not okay is the "AVG Safe" extension that they install in Firefox. The extension should be blocked in the Firefox Block list. The extension causes a lot of problems with Firefox and you should be remove it by reinstalling AVG without the "Link Scanner Component", disabling is temporary applies to only your current profile, and could be activated accidentally.

Hi dmcritchie
I will try your solution. I did have AVG antivirus but uninstalled it as it became bloated and replaced it with microsoft essentials. I noticed that AVG safe still existed after the AVG uninstall and just accepted it. However still don't understand the link between the message and AVG extension. Also the problem is only with Firefox version 5??
Many thanks Teljoy

Thank you, this did solve the problem. Can't work out why it was not automatically disabled. However it works.
Thank you
