Whenever I do a search from the Navigation Bar, firefox uses "mywebsearch" as the default search engine. I would like to change it to google. Does anyone know how to make the change??? I'm not talking about the little search bar window thing on the right hand side, that's easy to switch to whatever you want. I talking about the navigation bar where you would normally type in the url's etc. But when you just type in a search term you can search from the navigation bar as well. Help!!

MyWebSearch is adware (meaning that it replaces your settings with ad-sites and shows ads) and can be considered a kind of security thread. Get an antivirus or internet security suite.

I'll give you some instructions, and all the quotes I put in here are not to be copied. Basically, NO QUOTES. You can manually change your search engine by typing "about:config" in your location bar, hit enter. Ignore the Warranty warning (there's no actual warranty in Firefox, btw) by clicking "I'll be careful". In the textbox that appears above the list, type "keywork.URL", right click the entry on the list that matches what you typed, and click modify. Enter this URL: "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=" and click OK. Restart your browser.

You may need to do the following before resetting keyword.URL preference.

  1. Check if you have any of these from "Fun Web Products" installed:
  2. You may need to reset your homepage. Firefox can open multiple home pages. Home pages are separated by the "|" symbol.
