I want to be able to use alt code symbols, but firefox reacts to any sequence containing 7 or 4.

I had this problem before, but was able to find a solution on the help forums here. However, every similar question google turns up "cannot be found" so I must ask again myself. Is there a way I can tell Firefox not to react to Alt + 7 or Alt +4? I have num-lock on, and am using the proper keypad.
