Today, October 9th, Firefox update on my laptop and everything functions well except when I try to use the search pages for either Google or Bing. The pages https://www.google.com/ and https://www.bing.com both load without issue but when I attempt to search for ANYTHING there is just the dot moving left to right in the tab title with no results coming back on either.

All other sites appear to be running and loading fine and the issue seems to be with just the search pages that I mentioned. Both sites work fine with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

The "right click" search google function also has the same results. A blank tab opens with just the left to right dot on the tab title.

How can this be fixed? I don't want to have to go to using a different browser and of course having the ability to search is essential.

Please advise.

Gekozen oplossing

Let's start by rebooting the computer.

Have you noticed problems using other search engines?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem,

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While you are in Troubleshoot(Safe) mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

One other question: If you submit your search through the address bar instead of through the form on the search engine home page, does that work, or same problem?

Thanks for all the tips.

Clearing the cache (not the cookies) and disabling the hardware acceleration is what did the trick.

All is working well now :)
