Message Pane
Neither the default URL (or any other URL) appear in the start page when I launch Thunderbird; it remains blank. Also, the contents of an email message do not appear in the Message Pane when selected; it remains blank. If I try to open an email message in a new tab, the new tab remains blank. I can only open to read an email message in a new window.
I am running Thunderbird 78.3.1 (64-bit) on Mac, Catalina 10.15.7. Any advice how to fix this?

Let's see a screenshot of Tbird's entire window, showing the blank start page or message pane.

Thank you for the suggestion to restart in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, no problem, but not solved out of Safe Mode until I checked Reset Controls and Toolbars. Now it works in standard mode. Thanks again!
The issue I have with the message pane is that there seems to be what I would call a default home screen which appears, that contains a welcome to Thunderbird and a request for donations now that Mozilla sponsorship has ended. I would like the contents of the top message of my inbox to appear instead. I want to try "checking Reset Controls and Toolbars." Now consider for a moment the dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of areas over the entire graphic interface where I might reset or check something. What would have been truly helpful is if someone had told me WHERE to look to find the place where I find that setting!!!
