bookmarks not synchronised in account?
Hello,
I have a sync account and believed the bookmarks data was saved online. I reset windows and lost all my bookmarks in firefox ! (I had plenty..)
Please anyone can tell me if there is a way to recover them?
I already tried the backup & restore solution available in "Show all bookmarks" in bookmarks menu. Thank you for your help

Hi, I would say they are gone. I see no mention of another device you sync with. This would be the issue as : It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.
If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.
If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-sync-my-computer#w_connect-additional-devices-to-sync_
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Hello,
I do not have a copy of my data on another device so I think it is lost... So much websites lost for ever... I did a terrible mistake, it is my fault. I should not reset firefox without synchronize it on another device.
For the future, I suppose I should use the "Pocket list" if I want it to be saved online? Thank you for your help Pkshadow
Welcome, sorry is gone. You should be doing this backup :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
Please mark this as Solved with the Solution that worked so others can find it. Thanks.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
See also:
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
