how do I add a site to my new tab page, and how to I alter the bookmark column?

more options

My new tab page shows most visited sites but I cannot see any way to add a site myself. (I visit this site every month but Firefox fails to add it automatically).

Also, is there a way to change the order of the bookmark column, so the most recent history does not start at the bottom (which is really annoying)?

Hi greengen, on Firefox 52 ESR on Windows XP:

By default, Firefox prepares 15 thumbnails, but most people only see a part of the set because of zoom. If you zoom out (hold down Ctrl and tap - a few times), does the missing site show up so you can pin it?

You also can add a page to the New Tab Page using drag-and-drop from your bookmarks. More info in this article: Customize your Firefox New Tab page. (There might be other methods, but I have to admit I don't remember. What I needed nearly always showed up and I just pinned it.)

When you add a new bookmark, it usually is added at the end of the menu/toolbar/folder (as the case may be). You can try an add-on to automatically add new bookmarks at the beginning by keeping the menu/toolbar/folder sorted by most recent first.

This one says it is compatible with Firefox 52 still (and if you go to the All Versions link, there are older pre-Firefox 57 versions that definitely should be compatible with Firefox 52): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/ -- I haven't tried it myself

Is that what you're looking for?

Alternately, you can create a "smart bookmark folder" that shows a list of your most recently added bookmarks regardless of where they are saved. I have that for quick reference when I don't want to click around in folders. If you want to give that a spin, you can install it from the following page: drag the blue button to a convenient location and it should change to a blue folder with a magnifying glass. This is a live search that should always be up-to-date (and if you delete something from this list, you are deleting the actual bookmark).
