I have found a similar question here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/667651. But my problem is different. I can't get the find bar to appear. I have tried Ctrl+f and Edit > Find. My window is maximized so can't be a hidden part of the window. I use Ubuntu 14.04 with Firefox 43.0.4.

Are you talking about the on page find, or the web search? The first should pop-up when you press <Control> F

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
