I had to open a new account by using the same address and yet I can not create a Master password. When I try to access the emails, I receive the message "Authentication failed". The message says: Sending of password for user dgrossu1 did not succeed. Mail server pop3.cogeco.ca responded Authentication failed. " I contacted the internet provider and they said that they do not know how to solve such issues.

I can not create a Master password.

The master password protects any account passwords you told Thunderbird to remember. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_password

I suppose this isn't exactly what you wanted to do.

Verify your credentials via webmail.

maybe there is a mistake somewhere else.. I can not see any email in Thunderbird..the authentication fails all the time (both send and receive)..although there is a Master password created it does not work when accessing the email.

You don't use the master password to access your mail. For that you need your account password.

Thunderbird prompts you once upon startup to enter your master password. This will make any stored account passwords accessible.

You can try to reset the account password in case you told Thunderbird to remember it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_and_changing_email_passwords
