I want to change my Preferences to have FireFox save my passwords, but I can not seem to be able to locate the "preference" option or tab, thus I can not click on Security to make the change.

On the mac there is a Preferences.. sub menu item under the Firefox menu which launches a window with the Security tab.

or the alternative style...

"Firefox" button > Options (2nd column) > Options > Security

Looks/sounds like you were looking at directions for another system that refers to Edit or Preferences instead of Options.
